Over 20 construction students from North and South High Schools volunteered a Saturday in April to participate in a nationwide service project called Rebuilding Together. All across the country, communities, like those in Sheboygan County, bring together volunteers to rehabilitate the homes of low-income homeowners.
This is the second year that SASD Construction Teacher Jeff Grunewald has participated with his students.
The students made a great impact working on the following project sites:
• Addison Mand, Harrison Coates, Ashley Wilken, Steven Saxon, Jack Kelly, Tyler Manthei, and Jesus Gonzalez from North High and Alex Schieble and John Lange from South High School worked at Safe Harbor replacing windows on the second and installing interior trimwork.
• In Gibbsville, Tanner Behrens, Mike Barts, Michael Toth, Aaron Schultz, and Tyler Reineking installed new siding on a garage.
• On 19th St. in Sheboygan, Brandon Sippel and Dillon Lesicko replaced carpet in a home.
• On Logan Ave, Casey Blindauer, Eric Goetsch, Brandon Hicks, Chueyee Yang, and Jonathan Lavey replaced basement windows in a home.
Mr. Grunewald said, “I always tell my students they need to use their skills to help others in need and this is a great opportunity to work with them to help others out. I want to expose these students to remodeling and the challenges that brings.”
Volunteers in charge of the work sites were impressed the students’ motivation and volunteerism.
Mr. Grunewald said he couldn't be more proud of these students for taking their Saturday to give back to the community. “One of the most rewarding parts of teaching is seeing first-hand the great things these young men and women are capable of doing with the proper education and training.”
