North Highs Gay Straight Alliance is a student-led organized school club that aims to create a safe, welcoming and accepting school environment for all youth, regardless of one's sexual orientaiton or gender identity/expression. GSAs provide a supportive environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students as well as those who are perceived to be LGBT, those quesioning their identity, children of LGBT parents, and all other concerned about anti-LGBT bias in their communities. North's GSA allows LGBT and straight students to cooperatively address issues that affect all students, including harassment, discrimination and bias based on sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. GSA create safe schools through education, by providing opportunities for school communities to learn accurate information about LGBT people, and by giving students a greater understanding of how diversity enriches thier lives. GSA's help educate students thoughout the school, creating a climate of acceptance and understanding. Meetings are held twice a month. Some of the activities we have been involved in include the Homecoming parade, Ally Week, World AIDS Day, Day of Silence, and Movie nights.
