Save Darfur

SAVE Darfur, a student-initiated organization at North High School, was formed to bring awareness to the student body about the plight of the people of Darfur in Sudan, Africa. The group has had numerous fundraisers to help the SAVE Darfur National Organization. The group of 30 students, grades 9-12, meets every Tuesday after school in Room 248. So far, they have raised $450 in nickels, dimes, and quarters for the national organization. A
letter-writing campaign was conducted before Winter Break, and 110 letters were sent to the Wisconsin's United States senators and congressmen. The group was conceived and is now run by senior Rachel Mayer. A persuasive
research project in Composition set Rachel on fire. The group is learning that one person does make a difference in this world. It is hoped that this zeal for Darfur transfers on into these students' lives after they graduate
from North High School.
