The North High School and Urban Middle School learning communities will once again join efforts to offer "Saturday School" this year. This opportunity will serve as an option for students who miss school to complete makeup work, as well as serving as an alternative to InSchool Suspension.
Saturday School will be held from 8:30 am 10:30 am in the NHS IMC (library), beginning on Saturday, September 19. Staff from North and Urban will be present to welcome and monitor students attending. Saturday School will allow students to take "Ownership" of their actions while, at the same time, not having them miss any of their scheduled class time. After coordinating with the classroom teacher, this option would provide students the opportunity to make up tests, quizzes, or other work due to illness, athletic events, vacations, or for any other reasons if the student chooses to attend.
The North High School and Urban Middle School Administrative Teams also believe that this could serve as an alternative to traditional models of progressive discipline. This option will allow students to take responsibility for their actions, while at the same time, not miss vital classroom instruction. Administrators will discuss this option when contacting you regarding possible disciplinary action. At no time would your child be assigned to Saturday School without your permission. If you would prefer, other disciplinary consequences may be rendered in the place of a Saturday School assignment with the understanding that it may result in missed class time
Below you will find the tentative schedule for first semester Saturday School at North High School:
September 19 & 26 October 3, 10, 17, & 24
