Academic/Personal Stress Can Be Controlled

Story by: Rachel Fettig

Stress is something that every person from every walk of life has to deal with.
Stress is not an easy thing and at times it can feel like there’s no way out, but if you keep working hard, all the stress will pay off.
Not all stress is bad because it can motivate you to work hard to accomplish everything that needs to get done.
For me, stress can be a great reminder of all the things that still needs to get done and if I procrastinate, then the stress will become overwhelming.
Keeping in mind however, constant stress is not good for you since it can create exhaustion and will cause you to burn out.
Now that it is finally the fourth quarter, it becomes a race against time to get everything done before the end of the year.
Working to get good grades in all your classes while trying to juggle a ton of other things and for seniors, the prospect of the start of the next stage in life, can get overwhelming and very stressful. Having ways of dealing with stress is very helpful and may save you from going crazy with stress.
Being able to have a support system is one of the most common ways to relieve stress. Talking to friends and family about what worries you can help ease your fears if they are helpful in calming you down.
Also, taking time to go and spend time with friends and family can help because you are not alone with your thoughts of everything that needs to get done.
Another way to help relieve some stress is listening to music. Music, for me, is a release and a way to relax. It helps me to slow down and just work on the task at hand instead of thinking of how much stuff that still needs to be accomplished.
Listening to the music you enjoy to listen to lets you express yourself and even shut out the world from problems that you don’t want to concern yourself with.
Sometimes the only way to keep myself from breaking down is to crank up my iPod and just work on non-stress inducing things.
My final solution to relieve stress and my favorite is video games. Being able to be lazy and play games without thinking about daily stressors really helps if the next week is going to be a non-stop grind of work with no play. Many people enjoy the normal first person shooter, but don’t be afraid to go outside of the norm, there are plenty of other genres out there.
My person favorite types are RPGs, role-playing games, because when I play video games, I don’t want to be filled with rage and anger. RPGs help me to be feel like I am in control of what I want to accomplish instead of having angry team mates yell at me. It all depends on what you like or what your friends what you to play.
Junior, Alina Xiong said that when AP Chemistry becomes stressful, she likes to work ahead and try to multi task. “When I work ahead, and multi task, I feel like I get more done,” stated Xiong.
“When I have self-induced stress from home and work, I like to play with my puppy,” said Lynn Gleue, science teacher.
As time goes on, life will have plenty of stressors along the way, but with a good support system and an outlet for life stress, it doesn’t have to be so rough.
Try not to make the stress bigger than it actually is, just stay calm and it will be fine in the end.
