Forensics Enjoys Success

Story by: Tyler Kupsch

The work of the South High Forensics team is something the entire student body can be proud of.
The forensics team, led by coach Ben Kroll, started working in the beginning of January and has accomplished many feats since then.
The first of these achievements was Mitchell Tenpas winning state in poetry. His season was a whirlwind leading up to state as Tenpas switched pieces plenty of times, only going back to poetry right before the state tournament. Once at state, Tenpas was able to win the state championship for poetry and only missed nationals by one point.
“It felt amazing and I felt confident that I did my best performance on that piece,” stated Tenpas.
Many of the forensic team members were also able to qualify for nationals including: Hollis Rammer, Matthew Matysik, Alyshia De La Rosa, Heath Reinl, Stuart Schmidt, Allison Macknick, and Mackenzie Birkey. Nationals will be held in Philadelphia and Birmingham, AL.
Going to nationals is a huge success and being able to send students to both really shows how strong the forensics team is here at South.
“Seeing students qualify for nationals was one of my top moments this year because it showed how much each individual worked to achieve their goal,” commented Kroll.
Another top moment for the forensics team was holding their first ever Forensics Showcase. The event was set up by the students and completely student run. The team picked their best performers to show off their talents and hoped to earn more recognition from the student body. Fifty people showed up to watch the team.
