Job Fair Assists Students With Employment

Story by: Jesus Rivera

According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, America has an unemployment rate of 7.6 percent.
A statistic that many parents, grandparents, and even greatgrandparents fear that their children and grandchildren will become a part of. A percent that is feared by many, in a time of economic destabilization.
A way that South is helping in the efforts to assist the youth of America to be prepared for the workforce, is by holding a job fair at a convenient place for students, South. On May 15, the Counseling Center joined efforts with the Sheboygan County Job Center and its Youth Coordinator Brian Ognacevic to bring in 30 plus employers to the Redwing Gym for the students.
Steve Schneider, counselor, stated, “We (South) are glad that we were able to team up with the Sheboygan County Job Center.”
The ideal situation would be for a student to walk out with a job. Although that is not likely, it was still a great opportunity for the future employees to network with the employers.
Senior Cora Bollwahn found it to be very helpful, “It was such a great opportunity to have at South, I learned a lot.”
Holding the Job Fair at South opened up other opportunities for those interested in perfecting their job application skills. South put on seminars to assist students on their resume building and interview skills. Principal Mike Trimberger sums it up well, “We like to make sure that there are no barriers in place to the students to not have the opportunity.”
