Weier Enjoys Being Around, Helping Students

Story by: Sara Schrank

Every time someone is sick, has an appointment, or is not at school for any reason they have to be excused. The person who takes care of it all is Billie Jo Weier, the attendance office secretary.

Weier has been a secretary for 13 years. She takes care of many things during the day, including answering all of your parents’/guardians’ phone calls, writing passes, and sending phone calls home.

According to Weier, “Sending out the phone calls at the end of the day for the students that have missed class is the longest thing to do each day.”

Weier also added that her favorite part of her job is, “Totally the students.”

The students have made Weier more compassionate and now understands what they go through because of her job.

This year, the attendance office moved to a new location and is now a part of the main office. This is very different from before, because now everyone is together in one space, which can get very hectic. Weier likes the new location a lot, because it brings everyone together.

As Weier was growing up, she always wanted to work with students, but her dream job was to be a beautician. Today, she still would like to pursue her dreams and possibly write a book.

In Weier’s 12 years of being a secretary, her biggest fear is a student taking the booklet of passes and using them. One thing that disappoints Weier the most is, “When students have their friends call them in sick and try to get away with it.”

Outside of work, she loves to spend time camping and relaxing with her family. Weier and her husband Dean have been married for 24 years. They have two children; Kyra, 25 years-old, and Dustin, 22 years-old.

“When I
retire I would like to buy an RV and go
across America to every state,” Weier stated when asked about plans after retirement.

As students come in and out of school each day, we always have to remember that Weier is the one who makes it possible.

Weier ended her interview with her favorite quote...“You only get one first impression, so make it count.”
