South High School recently introduced yoga to ninth grade health
students as a way to counteract the stressors of today's society.
see students fixated on means of communication or entertainment at
almost all hours of the day other than sleep," said Peter Toutenhoofd,
South High School, Health Education. "The kids seem to really enjoy
taking time to focus on themselves for a few minutes This is a skill
we all need at any age or educational level."
goals of the program are to teach some relaxation skills, help build
focus, encourage a potential lifelong healthy habit and expose students
to a new activity.
