Rachel Knuth, a 2011 graduate of South High School, recently
completed a large mural (8'x12') on the 2nd floor of the Internal
Medicine section at the Aurora Sheboygan Clinic located
on Kohler Memorial Drive. The mural, done in acrylic paint, is a lively
representation of butterflies, frogs and foliage that leans more to
animation and abstraction. Rachel chose to complete this mural as part
of her honors requirement for her Advanced Drawing/Painting II Honors
course at South High.
Working on her own after school and on her days off, Rachel completed
the mural on July 2, 2011. The mural took a little longer than
anticipated with her new job schedule and figuring out transportation to
and from the clinic. Her art instructor, Carol Rokicki, was asked by
Sally Willoughby, one of the caregivers, if she had any students who
would like to paint a mural in a patient room to liven it up. Ms.
Rokicki asked her advanced students and Rachel was eager for the
assignment. Rachel met with Sally and they discussed the possibilities.
Rachel provided beginning sketches that were approved by Sally and her
supervisor. Rachel worked diligently to create a wonderful, lively scene
that brightens the room and all who use it.
Rachel plans on continuing a career in the arts as an art historian.
She will attend UW Sheboygan this fall then transfer to UW Madison in a
year or two.
