South High School Senior Stuart Schmidt has been awarded the Elk’s Lodge #299, Inc. October Student of the Month scholarship for his academic excellence and school involvement.
An academically strong student, Schmidt has been on the first honor roll all semesters from freshman to junior years. Schmidt was also class president for three years. His extra-curricular involvement is wide ranging, from music, Student Council, National Honor Society, and three years on the forensics team, with whom he competed at the national level for all three years.
Schmidt plans on attending Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, to study environmental sciences and major in Sustainable Community Development. He reports that his career interests include further research in environmental policy or fieldwork.
Schmidt was awarded a $100 scholarship and a recognition plaque from Elks member Mr. Larry Kettel.
