Electronic Devices

The use of radios, CD/MP3/tape players, games, is not allowed during the school day. Please leave these items at home. The school is not responsible for the loss or theft of these or other valuable items.

Possession of a pager at school or school related activities is prohibited by Board Policy. (5144.1(a)). Students in possession of a pager or two-way communication device, may be subject to the following measures:

  1. immediate notice to parent(s) or legal guardian(s) by the building administrator or his/her designee of the violation and immediate confiscation of the item.
  2. a referral to law enforcement agency.
  3. one day suspension from school.


5136.01 - ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT

Students may possess and use mobile devices (including but not limited to, cellular phones) on premises owned, rented by, or under the control of the School District, if the school principal or other administrator in charge of the facility determines that the mobile device is used or possessed for a valid medical, school-related, educational, vocational or other legitimate reason.

The Assistant Superintendent for Student and Instructional Services may prescribe student rules governing the use of mobile devices during the school day, at school-related activities, and under other appropriate circumstances. Copies of rules related to the appropriate use of mobile devices will be provided to students annually.

A copy of this policy, and related rules, together with copies of any future amendments, will be provided to the State Superintendent of Public Instruction in conformance with Section 118.258(2) of the Wisconsin Statutes.


CELL PHONES

Cell phones are authorized according to school board policy. Cell phones cannot be loaned out to other students. Cell phones are to be kept in student lockers and turned off between 7:30 a.m. to 2:47 p.m. If a student is caught using a cell phone during the school day, the phone will be confiscated and brought to the main office. A discipline referral will also be written for the student using the phone, and a parent/guardian will be expected to pick the phone up at school.


5136 - MOBILE DEVICES

Students enrolled in the Sheboygan Area School District shall be permitted to possess and use mobile devices (including, but not limited to, cellular phones) in accordance with the following guidelines:

Mobile devices may not be used during the instructional day except with the permission of the administration. The instructional day is defined as being from the official start of the school day until the official end of the school day.

A. During the instructional day as defined above, specific uses of mobile devices will be determined by building administration.
B. Mobile devices that are approved for individual students under this policy may not be loaned to other students while on school premises.
C. Usage of mobile devices during non-instructional times that is considered disruptive to the school environment and management of the school, as determined by the administration, may result in a termination of this privilege.
D. Any violations of the above guidelines may lead to an immediate revocation of a student’s authorization to use mobile devices on school premises.
These Rules will be published in each school handbook.
