Urban Middle School Geography Bee
Urban Middle School held a Geography Bee in each of their social studies classes during the month of November. The top students then competed in a grade level Geography Bee. The following students competed in the school wide geography bee held in December. Representing 6th grade: Andre Melendez, Owen Dominguez and Maxwell Schmidtke. Representing 7th grade: Duncan Fox, Ben Weimer and Ethan Trass and representing 8th grade: Jose Salazar, Ben Schlei and Kyle Kertscher. All contestants received a certificate.
In the school wide Geography Bee - Ben Scheli took third place and was also awarded a pin. Ethan Traas placed second and also received a pin. Jose Salazar was the winner of the Urban Geography Bee and received a medal. Salazar will advance to the next level of competition, which is a written examination to determine state competitors.
All school winners are eligible to win the national championship and its first prize of a $25,000 college scholarship at the national competition May 20 – 22, 2013 in Washington, D.C.
