Washington Students Learn, Practice Sequence Skills
First grade students at Washington School for Comprehensive Literacy
conducted research using “how to” books and practiced procedural
writing. After reading the book Let’s Bake
some students collaboratively wrote a sequence of instructions for a
banana bread recipe. The students then practiced making real life
connections between words and their use by mashing, cracking, stirring,
and pouring when they made banana bread.
