$2,000 Hiring Bonus offered for the 2026-2027 school year for Special Education Educational Assistants.

$2,000 hiring bonus offered for staff members in full-time, 7 hour/day or higher positions only.
Bonus is prorated based on hire date.
Bonus is paid out $500 per semester for two years. The first payment received after completion of the first semester; second payment received upon completion of the school year.

Meet Maury, Educational Assistant

We are proud to recognize Maury Villanueva, whose 25 years of service at the ELC have made a lasting difference for our youngest learners.

Maury supports ELC students with a wide range of needs by providing visuals, communication devices, verbal prompts, and individualized guidance to ensure every child can access learning. She intentionally builds strong, trusting relationships with each student so they feel safe, supported, and understood when they are with her. In addition to instructional support, she assists with feeding, dressing, toileting, and bus supervision, always approaching every task with care, dignity, and compassion.

🗨️ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁?

I have been working in the SASD for 25 years. I started at the ELC as a Bus Assistant, and then transitioned to a Special Education Assistant.

🗨️ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁?

One meaningful moment for me was supporting a 4-year-old student with autism, who had a really hard time following the schedule and transitioning to specials like library, makerspace, or gym. I consistently used visual support, got down to his eye level, and spoke to him in a quiet, soft voice to make him feel calm and safe. I also used a "first-then" board and allowed him to have fidgets during circle time, which helped him to stay regulated. He learned to follow classroom routines more independently and transitioned to specials with confidence.

🗨️ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗷𝗼𝗯?

Watching a student gain confidence, communicate their needs, or successfully transition to their next step in education reminds me that patience and consistency truly make a difference. Being part of those first steps is incredibly rewarding!

Maury is absolutely excellent at what she does. She treats each child with respect and dignity, is always positive, and takes on new tasks with enthusiasm.
