School Closings and Delays

Winter Weather

Winter has a number of factors which contribute to school closure, delay or early dismissal. Snow, wind, ice or wind chill can all play a role in determining the decision. Looking after the safety of our students is the most important factor. All official school closings due to weather will be determined by the Superintendent's office.

In addition to considering normal snow and ice conditions, the Sheboygan Area School District will cancel classes when a Wind Chill Warning is issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) for Sheboygan County. All media outlets in both Green Bay and Milwaukee report wind chill information using standards from the NWS for Sheboygan County. The NWS uses a chart that calculates wind chill, taking into account the air temperature and wind speed.

Closings and cancellations can be found on the SASD home page or by calling 803-SNOW(7669). Make sure you click the refresh button when checking the SASD webpage for school closings.

Families with students in the Sheboygan Area School District will receive an automated phone call, email, and/or text message through our School Messenger/Skylert system.

This information posted on the Sheboygan Area School District Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts.

As soon as a decision is made to close or delay school, area radio and television stations will be notified. Announcements will be made on the following stations beginning at approximately 6:00 am:

  • WXER 104.5 FM
  • WJUB 1420 AM
  • WHBL 1330 AM - listings page
  • WLKN 98.1 FM

Early Release Information

If weather conditions warrant the early release of students, the school day will be shortened by two hours from the normal afternoon release time. There will be no afternoon classes at the Early Learning Center (ELC) or Early Childhood (EC) programs. The buses run the normal routes, but at an earlier time based on the revised school day schedule. No activity buses run on those days.

If school is closed early due to weather, all after-school and evening activities are also cancelled.

Being Prepared

Please remember to have your children dress appropriately for the weather, making sure that children will be prepared for unexpected changes in the weather. This is especially important for children waiting for the buses that may be delayed due to road conditions.
