Lake Country Academy is a non-instrumentality public charter school within the Sheboygan Area School District where all decisions are made on-site and specific to the design of the school. Our Founders chose a design that supported high academics and a virtuous environment.
M–F 8:00 a.m.–3:15 p.m.
LCA does not have Early Release on Wednesdays. One Friday per month, we have a Teacher In-service and students are not in session that day.
Morning 4K 8:00–11:00 a.m.
Afternoon 4K 12:15–3:15 p.m.
We use Direct Instruction as a teaching method and group students in math, reading and spelling by ability, not by grade. These groups are usually smaller than a regular class size and a great deal of monitoring is done to ensure that each student is placed at the level where he or she is most successful. If a student needs to change groups, it can be done swiftly and with no class time wasted.
Students are with their peers for all other classes and are engaged in Core Knowledge, a curriculum that is rich with facts. Each grade is in sync with the next so students build from one year to the next on knowledge gained from each subject area.
We also integrate a Core Virtue program in classwork, behavior management and the overall culture of the school. Students learn and apply values that are commonly believed to be important such as responsibility, respect, perseverance, kindness, generosity and honesty. A different virtue is highlighted each month and is the focus at weekly all-school assemblies.
Uniforms are required for all students who attend Lake Country Academy.
As part of the state accountability system, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) produces report cards for every district and school in Wisconsin.
In all cases, assessment results are used by teachers, schools and the district as part of an established protocol of continuous improvement. Individual student needs are recognized and evaluated. Student growth is compared to expected growth and districtwide growth is measured to evaluate successes and plan for the future.
Classroom

In the classrooms, teachers provide a variety of experiences that will help students practice the skills necessary to help them learn and apply their knowledge in order to demonstrate their understanding. There are a variety of assessments that are used in the district in order to monitor the progress of individual students, track student growth, and evaluate the success of the school and district. Some of these assessments are required by the state, others are part of district efforts to monitor and evaluate progress.
