Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for 2021 Project House

September 14, 2021

The North and South High School House Construction students held a Groundbreaking Ceremony for Project 2021 on Tuesday, September 14 at the construction site located on Lot #78 in the new Stonebrook Crossing on the southside of Sheboygan (between Moenning Road and South Business Drive). Project 2021 is the 24th home that will be built by SASD students enrolled in Career & Technical Education classes from Sheboygan North and Sheboygan South High Schools.

The program included a welcome from Jason Duff, Academic and Career Planning Coordinator for the Sheboygan Area School District. Superintendent Seth Harvatine also spoke at the program, emphasizing how important it is for schools to prepare students for the future by offering real-world, hands-on learning experiences like this one. Goal 1 of the Sheboygan Area School District Long Range Plan states: Upon Graduation, all students will be prepared to successfully take the next step in their self-defined career pathway. Experience gained in this House Construction class provides students with skills, experiences, and connections to pursue a career in construction trades. Ed Hurlbutt from Oostburg Lumber and Bob Werner from Werner Homes are two of the many valued community partners in this project and also addressed the students and guests at the ceremony.

This is the sixth home built under the direction of instructor and project manager Ted Schermetzler.

This home will be one of the first built in the new Stonebrook Crossing subdivision by Werner Homes.
