North High Career Expo for SASD Students

North High Career Expo for SASD Students

The North High Career Expo brought together over 1,500 students from the Sheboygan Area School District and 50 employers and community partners for a day filled with hands-on career exploration. Representatives from local businesses and industries, military branches, and colleges welcomed students into interactive booths and displays designed to spark curiosity about future careers and post-secondary opportunities.

Events like the Career Expo help students gain a broader understanding of the types of careers offered by different employers. It also helps students connect with opportunities such as job shadows, nine-week co-op work experiences, and semester-long youth apprenticeships, where students earn high school credit and a paycheck.

Recent North High graduate Cynthia Martinez returned to the Career Expo representing Lakeshore Community Health Care (LCHC). As a student, she benefited from events like this to explore career possibilities and plan her path after high school. During her senior year, Cynthia participated in a youth apprenticeship at LCHC, attending classes part of the day while gaining hands-on, real-world experience the rest of the day. After graduation, Lakeshore hired Cynthia as a full-time dental assistant. Cynthia shared, “Applying to Youth Apprenticeship and getting experience in the field helped me to know what I wanted with my career, where I want to go after high school, and my next steps into college.”

The Career Expo is held every other year, giving students a chance to attend as both underclassmen and upperclassmen as their career interests and post-secondary plans evolve throughout high school.

This event is hosted by North High, along with Inspire Wisconsin and the Northeast Wisconsin Building and Construction Trades Council.
