Grant & ESAA Fifth Graders Surpass Story-telling Expectations
Fifth graders at Grant Elementary School and the Elementary School for Arts and Academics took their descriptive writing projects to the next level by infiltrating their Halloween stories with artistically created three-dimensional haunted houses.
In the last two and a half weeks, Mrs. Tracy Steger's writing class used the Six Traits of Writing, focusing mostly on the trait of powerful word choice. Students were also asked to design a scary looking house to go along with their story. Students were encouraged to work on their houses at home with the support of their families whenever possible.
Pictured here is one fifth grader's haunted house.
The class is currently working on typing the stories so that they can be displayed on the Internet for others to enjoy reading. The students also participated in an "author's tea", allowing them to share the stories and celebrate their work with refreshments.
