National Award-Winning Author Visits Cleveland Elementary
Said to be one of the Cleveland Elementary School's best author visits, was a rendezvous by author Barbara Techel with the famous Frankie the Walk ‘n Roll dog (which is also the title of her book).
Frankie, the Walk 'N Roll Dog was recognized as the National Best Book for 2008 in the category of Children's Picture Book Non-fiction soft cover. Frankie, short for Francesca, is a dachshund who suffered a spinal injury after falling on her back. Frankie is able to get around thanks to the invention of a cart-like device that was invented for animals.
Techel shared with the students Frankie's story and the inspiration she felt to relate her experience and provide a message of hope. She incorporated her writing method into the slide show by presenting pictures of her writing space and thinking chair.
Books were available for purchase and each signed by the author and Frankie Each student had the opportunity to pet the dog after their many questions.
