North Culinary Club Wins Gingerbread House Contest

Sheboygan North High School Culinary Club took first place overall at the annual Kohler Foundation's 12th Annual Gingerbread Festival competition with their gingerbread house entitled "Snow Place Like Home for the Holidays."

The students created a gingerbread English tutor home and decorated it for the holidays. Details included carolers singing at the door, skaters on a pond and a whimsical snowman in a yard full of lighted trees.

Throughout December the gingerbread creations donned the Waelderhaus in Kohler and guests were able to view the artwork and vote on their favorites. Nearly 6,500 votes were cast. Prizes based on five grade levels were awarded. Each first place winner was awarded $500 cash. North will use the money to further student culinary successes.

"My students were very elated and proud to think that they have kept up a winning tradition for seven years in the high school division. I believe North High Culinary Students were overall contest favorites for five or six of those seven years," said Karen Sullivan, North High culinary instructor.

Members of the Sheboygan North High Culinary Club who participated in the project are Holly Berg, Kevin Bolwerk, Alex Gamez, Gee Lee, Heather Madson, Raven Neils, Brian Shaw, Alex Theodoroff, Tiana Wieck and Colin Willis.
