High School Art Students Receive Special Recognition

Sheboygan North and South High School art students have the privilege of displaying their artwork at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh's 36th Annual High School Art Competition.

On exhibit will be South High work from Peng Yang's wire sculpture and oil painting (teachers Linda Badtke and Carol Rokicki); Rebecca Brandt, pen and ink drawing (teacher Carol Rokicki).

The works are being displayed as part of a juried competition; the exhibit runs March 11-April 2, 2009, in the Priebe Gallery at UW-Oshkosh.

Garnering recognition for the South High art department is Devan Brown (teacher Carol Rokicki), who was recognized with the W.T. Graham Award. In addition to the award, his art work is on display at the State Capital.

The W.T. Graham Award is presented to 42 students from each of the six regions participating in the Youth Art Month Ceremony at the State Capital. Artwork selected for this award is framed, exhibited and later returned to the student. The school also receives a special certificate.

Also having his artwork on display in Madison is Sheboygan North High student Justin Thao (teacher Frank Juarez). In addition to having his artwork on display at the State Capital for Youth Art Month, he will also receive a special award from Sax.
