North Olympiad's Place Tops in Area Competitions

The Sheboygan North High School Science Olympiad Team competed earlier this year with great results.

At the East Wisconsin Science Olympiad Regional Competition at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Jan. 31, 2009, the North High School team, coached by Amy Reinholtz, brought home the following medals: First Place to Otto Kletzien and Kevin Chen for Cell Biology; Second Place to Max Nabbefeld and Tyler Stank for Disease Detectives and Otto Kletzien and Kevin Chen for Food Science.

The competition consisted of 28 events as established by the National Science Olympiad organization. The events are a mixture of the traditional sciences such as chemistry, physics, earth science, biology, physiology, ecology, mathematics plus technology, materials, construction and computers.

On Saturday, March 21, 2009, the team competed at the Slinger High School Invitational. First Place Medals went to Harindi Amithirigala and Tyler Stank for Cell Biology; Nick Karls and Harindi Amithirigala for Ecology; Max Nabbefeld and Stank for Technical Problem Solving; and Tommy Nonnweiler and Evan Jochimsen for Astronomy. Second Place medals were awarded to Jon Gollner and Tommy Nonnweiler for Write It, Do It.
