Cleveland Second Graders Study Edmund Fitzgerald
Jen Eggers' second grade class at Cleveland Elementary School recently commemorated the 34th anniversary of the loss of the iron-ore boat, the "Edmund Fitzgerald", which sank in a violent Lake Superior storm on November 10, 1975. The class completed a weeklong unit, including research of the saga of the Edmond Fitzgerald, reading the book "The Song of the Bell" and listening to the song by Gordon Lightfoot.
The students drew pictures of the ill-fated ship and wrote stories to demonstrate their understanding of the timeline of events in the tragedy. The class used the official Edmond Fitzgerald website as part of their research. They requested the 34th Anniversary post card and posted a note and photo of the class with their project timelines.
