Cleveland Students Tour Point Beach Energy Center
building "edible" atoms
using pretzel sticks and marshmallows
Point Beach Energy Center.
Third and fourth grade students from Cleveland Elementary School traveled to the Point Beach Nuclear Power Plant recently to learn about magnetism and electricity. While at the visitors' center, students learned how electricity is made at Point Beach and at other nuclear power facilities in the United States including dams. The students also learned how to be safe around electricity.
After the presentation, the students then spent time in the "Energy Experience" room and participated in some hands-on activities to learn more about electricity, radiation, batteries, and wind-powered turbines. When the students were asked to list some of their favorite activities during the field trip, they mentioned the science toys, Jeopardy, and making edible atoms out of pretzel sticks and marshmallows.
