North Science Olympiad Team Has Good Year

The Sheboygan North High School Science Olympiad Team had twenty-one team members during the 2009-2010 school year. Members of the team included Kevin Chen, Jon Gollner, Evan Jochimsen, Otto Kletzien, Nick Karls, Max Nabbefeld, Tommy Nonnweiler, Tyler Stank, Dakota Manier, Kim Vue, Tim Voss, Lily Zimmermann, Tye Smies, Matt Bruckschen, Kaitlyn Laning, Evan Hovey, Jonathan Gee, Trenton VandeWater, John Jones, and Aaron Barth. Biology teacher Amy Reinholtz coached the team.

During the school year, the team participated in two regional competitions, one invitational event and the state competition. The results for each competition follow.

UW-Oshkosh Regional Competition:
  • 1st place medals went to Tommy Nonnweiler and Evan Jochimsen for Cell Biology and Astronomy; Tyler Stank and John Jones for Disease Detectives and Tommy Nonnweiler, Jon Gollner and Evan Jochimsen for Picture This
  • 2nd place medals went to Matt Bruckschen and Jonathan Gee for Ecology and Otto Kletzien and Kevin Chen for Road Scholar
  • A 3rd place medal went to Tyler Stank and Kevin Chen for Fermi Questions
UW-Milwaukee Regional Competition:
  • 2nd place went to Otto Kletzien and Lily Zimmermann for Environmental Chemistry
  • 3rd place went to Otto Kletzien and Max Nabbefeld for Cell Biology and Nick Karls and Matt Bruckschen for Ecology
  • 4th place went to Trenton VandeWater and Jonathan Gee for Remote Sensing
  • 5th place went to Otto Kletzien and Lily Zimmermann for Materials Science and Evan Hovey, Evan Jochimsen, and Dakota Manier for Experimental Design
Slinger High School Invitational:
  • 1st place medals went to Tommy Nonnweiler and Evan Jochimsen for Cell Biology
  • 2nd place medals went to Lily Zimmermann & Kaitlyn Laning for Write it, Do it
  • 3rd place medals went to Brady Cassidy & Kaitlyn Laning for Road Scholar; Tye Smies & Dakota Manier for Materials Science; Brady Cassidy & Otto Kletzien for Fermi Questions; Tye Smies & Kim Vue for Ecology; Tommy Nonnweiler & Evan Jochimsen for Anatomy and Physiology
UW-Madison Science Olympiad State Competition:
  • 2nd place medals went to Jon Gollner & Tommy Nonnweiler for Write it, Do it
  • 5th place medals went to Jon Gollner, Lily Zimmermann & Kaitlyn Laning for Picture This
  • 8th place went to Jon Gollner & Tommy Nonnweiler for Cell Biology
