James Madison Students Collecting Supplies for Troops in Afghanistan

Madison Elementary School is having an all-school collection to help support the U. S. troops who are stationed in Afghanistan. The school will continue to accept donations until Madison School's Veteran's Day Assembly, which will be on Monday, November 8. The Madison students and staff chose to have this all-school collection because Madison staff member Tami Leighty's husband is currently deployed in Afghanistan with the Army.

Parents and other community members who would like to participate in this worthy cause are asked to drop off their donation to James Madison School, which is located at 2302 David Avenue in Sheboygan. Besides items, monetary donations are also being accepted since the money can be used to help pay for the postage that will be needed to send the supplies to Afghanistan.

Items that the military allows sent to Afghanistan are: Individually wrapped treats (ex: Rice Krispie bars, granola bars), individually wrapped beef sticks, beef jerky, flavored drink mixes (individual servings), individual tissue packs, chap stick, air fresheners, gum, gummy bears, hand held games, magazines (sports, hunting, fishing, computer), puzzle books (crosswords, word searches, Sudoku), small foam footballs, baseballs (hacky sack type), music CD's, blank DVD's, DVD sleeves, hard candies (individually wrapped), hand/foot warmers, plastic bags - sandwich, quart, or gallon, and clear packing tape.
