Urban Middle School students jumped all over heart disease and stroke by participating in Hoops For Heart. The students raised more than $4,600 for the American Heart Association, which funds research, programs and education to fight heart disease and stroke, our nation's No. 1 and No. 3 killers.
"I'm so pleased with the success of this year's event," said Patty Winkler, Hoops For Heart coordinator. "We all had a lot of fun, and the kids enjoyed learning about the importance of physical activity and how they can play a role in saving lives."
Winkler added, "We would like to thank Piggly Wiggly, Johnston Bakery, and the Vollrath Company for their generous donations for our event."
Hoops For Heart is a program that promotes physical activity and heart health through playing basketball. It is co-sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
