South Students and Staff Reach Out to the Community

Each year during the month of December, Sheboygan South High School students and staff take time to reach out to children and community members to help those who are less fortunate.

A summary of some of the successful fundraisers and events that were held in December 2010 includes:

Student Council Adopts Two Families for Christmas - The Student Council was able to give two families from South High a Christmas to remember. Student Council "Elves" came to the rescue by finding families in need and providing a little more color under the tree this year.

Winter Blood Drive - On Thursday, December 16, 88 South High students and staff participated in the Blood Center blood drive that was run by the South Student Council. A total of 68 donations were collected, saving a total of 204 lives.

Walk for Warmth - On Saturday, December 4, walkers both young and old raised approximately $3,800. The money will be used to assist families with heat for their homes for the winter.

Boys' Basketball Toy Drive - At the December 17 home basketball game, players, coaches and fans donated over 200 toys for local children.

Salvation Army Bell Ringer - The boys' basketball team, the Redwing Leadership Council and National Honor Society members rang bells at various locations throughout the city of Sheboygan to collect for the Salvation Army.

Safe Harbor Auction - The South High Ladies held their annual Holiday Dinner at The Bull on December 9. In addition to the good food and fellowship, almost $1700 was raised through a silent auction for Safe Harbor.

Dance Teams Drives - Both the JV and Varsity dance team members adopted a family and provided them with food, toiletries, clothing and toys.
