Wilson Second Graders Enjoy Reading Buddy Program
Wilson Elementary School is fortunate to participate in the Reading
Buddy Program that is sponsored by the Foster Grandparent/Seniors in
School Program. The Foster Grandparent/Seniors in School Program is
funded through a grant from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
Through this program, each second grade student in the class receives
a stuffed animal "buddy" and four books to take home. The Reading Buddy
program recognizes that not all children have someone at home to read
with them, and having a "buddy" to read to provides an added incentive
to make reading at home more enjoyable and fun.
Grandma Renda coordinates the Reading Buddy Program at Wilson and is
one of six grandparent volunteers working with students at Wilson on a
regular basis. Seniors, age 55 and older, who are interested in
volunteering in the schools, should contact Barbara Horneck, program
director, at 920-783-0003.
