Foster Grandparents Help Students Learn at Jefferson
The Foster Grandparents at Jefferson Elementary School are a vital part of students’ daily learning. Jefferson currently has two dedicated “Grandmas”.

Grandma Mary Mettry has been a Foster Grandparent for over 11 years.  She is at Jefferson four days a week in Cinda Pennings’ Kindergarten class.  She does not like staying at home and wants to keep her mind young.  Grandma Mary says it is fun working with the kids, even at 80 years old.

Grandma Jeanne Kade has been a Foster Grandparent for over 10 years.  She is at Jefferson two days a week in Peggy Reynolds’ Kindergarten class.  She never had children of her own; she enjoys working with children and likes seeing their smiling faces.  Grandma Jeanne also takes pleasure in seeing the progress the children have made at the end of each year.

The Sheboygan Area School District is proud to be the sponsoring agency of the WI Foster Grandparent Program for the past 37 years.
This state and federally funded program places older adults in the elementary classrooms of the district working with children in small groups or one-on-one under the direction of the classroom teacher.

If you would like to learn more about volunteering in the schools, please contact Barbara Horneck, Director at 783-0003.
