Dear Sheboygan Area School District families,

During the September 14, 2021 meeting of the Board of Education, the administration was asked to present a recommendation for when facial coverings would shift from recommended to being required. Those recommendations were discussed at the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, October 12, 2021.

The Board approved the following masking mitigation requirements:

  • 4K - 12th Grade - When active student COVID-19 positive cases reach 5% of the student population at a building, all students, staff members, and visitors will be required to wear facial coverings for a minimum of 7 calendar days, and until the building student positive case rate drops below 5%.
  • Exemptions from facial coverings and accommodations will be made when physical, medical, or developmental needs exist and are documented from a medical provider or through the IEP process.

Schools will notify families when the threshold is reached and masks will be temporarily required.

As a reminder, additional mitigation enhancements went into effect on Monday, October 11, 2021, requiring symptomatic students and staff to have a negative COVID-19 test to return to school or to remain home for 10 days. On-site COVID-19 testing is offered in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and COVID Clinic at schools within the district.

Please note: Sheboygan Leadership Academy, as a non-instrumentality charter school, has individual and separate policies regarding COVID-19 mitigation and masking. Please contact Sheboygan Leadership Academy for more information about mask requirements for their students and staff.
