Lt. Governor Barnes Meets with High School Student Groups

Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes visited South High School Tuesday, November 9 to meet with the South High School WE RISE student group and the North High School START Change student group. Students took advantage of a full hour to ask Lt. Governor Barnes thoughtful questions on a variety of topics relating to equity, inclusion, activism, and societal issues.

The mission of Working to Eliminate Racial Injustice and Support Equity (WE RISE) at South High School is for students to use their voices and their experiences to work with educators and community members to make South High School an equitable learning and social environment to improve the future of all students. Students That Are Rising Through (START) Change is a North High School student-led club that is on an educational mission. By using their voices and their experiences to work with classmates, educators, and community members, the goal of START Change is to elevate student voices in the name of equity, justice, and inclusion to help improve the North High community for current and future Raiders. This is the second time Lt. Governor Barnes has met with South High students. He joined a virtual discussion with students via Zoom last spring.
