Jackson Third Graders Become Published Authors
Some of Jackson Elementary School’s third graders were quite shocked at what they found in their school library. Upon returning from lunch one day, they were led to the library by their teacher. They entered a room filled with their parents, teachers, aides and even a few grandparents. The occasion? The students’ book publishing projects had arrived and parents were invited to share in the moment of exhilaration when the students learned that their books had finally arrived.
This was the culmination of weeks of hard work. Students planned, wrote, edited, proofread, word-processed, and illustrated the stories of their favorite summer experiences. Parents and other adults were a big help on the homefront with encouragement, and typing. Every child had a special grownup admiring his or her accomplishment. It was a great day to be a third grader AND an author!
Above, Andrew Resheske and his mom, Amanda, smile with the published book.
