Updated Board of Education Meeting Date and Survey

December 11, 2020

December 11, 2020

Dear Sheboygan Area School District parents,

It has been a difficult few months trying to navigate what is truly an unprecedented combination of addressing the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuring quality learning in a safe environment.

I am writing today to let you know that there has been a change in date of the next Board meeting. The December 15 board meeting is postponed to December 22.

We are postponing because we have a great opportunity to take part in a working session that will involve Dr. Dimitri A. Christakis, director of the Center for Child Health, Behavior and Development at Seattle Children's Research Institute. I will attend the working session, along with a collaborative group of teachers, administrators, parents, local healthcare providers, and our board president, David Gallianetti. This session will allow for an exchange of additional ideas and health recommendations as we work on a re-entry plan for January. Our recommended plan for our return to in-person learning will be presented at the December 22 board meeting.

As part of the planning, we are actively looking for parent feedback. If you have not already, please take a few minutes to complete our parent survey by Sunday, December 13: Click Here for Parent Survey (Spanish link) (Hmong link)

The intention of this survey is to gather feedback on virtual learning, student mental health, and parent preliminary thoughts about learning model preference for their child(ren).

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We will communicate again after the Board of Education Meeting on December 22.

Sincerely,

Seth A. Harvatine
Superintendent of Schools
Sheboygan Area School District
