Virtual Elementary School
Virtual Learning Option for Elementary School Students
The Sheboygan Area School District offers a virtual elementary school program and is committed to continuing to offer a fully virtual online learning program in the future.
Each virtual elementary school student, with help from an adult at home, works through course modules and can expect to work 3-4 hours a day within the program. Since the course content is not delivered through live instruction, it can be accessed at a time that suits each family best. The coursework is rigorous, but families have the flexibility to determine when the student completes the assigned work during the day. Each Monday, dedicated, certified virtual teachers assign the grade-level work, which is due at the end of the week. They meet with classes for some "live” sessions as well as with individuals and small groups, as needed, to provide additional support, instruction, or enrichment.
In addition, teachers share student progress, respond to student and parent correspondence, meet with students and their families to assist with curriculum-related questions, monitor student progress, and provide timely grading and feedback. As in an in-person setting, the virtual elementary school teachers collaborate with other teachers and staff to meet the needs of all students, offer encouragement, and celebrate successes.
