The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act was created to ensure that children and youth experiencing homelessness have the same opportunity to be successful in school as their housed peers. Individuals and families who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence are considered to be experiencing homelessness by the McKinney-Vento Act.
