An inspiring initiative is taking place at Grant Elementary School, and it is providing warm winter clothing to students in need.

Kindergarten teacher Chris Conway noticed that many children at the school did not have access to proper winter gear, such as warm jackets, snow pants, boots, and mittens. To address this issue, Chris started Conway's Closet to provide these vital items to the students who need them. The project has received support from companies like Dynamic Inc. and widespread support from Chris's family, friends, and the Grant School staff.

“I noticed the increasing number of children without the proper winter outdoor gear. Unfortunately, warm winter jackets, snow pants, boots, and insulated mittens are expensive, and some parents just can’t afford them for all their children. Children may also have had a winter jacket, but then the zipper breaks and the parent can’t afford to buy another one,” said Chris.

“When children do not have all the proper winter clothing in order to stay dry during the rest of the school day, they can’t play in the snow field. It is heartbreaking to see them missing out on the fun of playing in the snow,” she added.

The teachers at Grant have collaborated to ensure that all of their students are cared for. A form was sent out by Chris to every teacher, and each of them indicated if any of their students were in need. This teamwork in identifying needs created a ripple effect that spread much-needed help among the students at the school.

Principal Patrick Neils shares, “Chris goes above and beyond in her support for the students and families of the Grant School Family, as do all the staff. Chris and the entire Grant staff make this such an amazing school and a great place to be.”
