Wilson Phy Ed Teacher Wins SHAPE Teacher of the Year Award

January 5, 2023

Congratulations to Kim Selby, Physical Education Teacher at Wilson Elementary School, who was selected as the SHAPE America Midwest District Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year!

Selby was previously recognized by SHAPE America as the Wisconsin Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year in 2020.

SHAPE America – Society of Health and Physical Educators - announced its 2023 District Teacher of the Year award recipients in December. Recipients are being recognized for excellence in physical education, adapted physical education, health education, and dance education. These outstanding educators — who were all previously recognized as state teachers of the year — have now been selected as the “best of the best” in their category at the district level, representing one of SHAPE America’s five districts: Central, Eastern, Midwest, Southern, and Western.

“These incredible teachers epitomize what the Teacher of the Year program is all about – recognizing those who motivate and lead their students to participate in a lifetime of physical activity,” says SHAPE America CEO Stephanie Morris.

The program is sponsored by the Teacher of the Year Partner Network, which includes SPARK, Wellness Training Specialists, GOPHER, and Goodheart-Willcox Publisher. SHAPE America will honor these District Teachers of the Year at the 2023 SHAPE America National Convention & Expo in Seattle. During the convention’s closing general session on Friday, March 31, SHAPE America will announce which district winner in each of the five categories has been named the National Teacher of the Year for that category. “We are so proud of these outstanding teachers and excited to honor and showcase them on a national stage during convention in Seattle,” says Morris.
