Central High School

About Central High School

Central High School is an innovative charter high school focused on real world results, preparing students for post-secondary education or job training and placement. Students can choose a project-based or traditional learning format with flexible, individualized scheduling that successfully connects students to the real world.

Education at Central High

In the day-school program, many students participate in Project-Based Learning (PBL). PBL students earn credits through integration of research, writing, and presentation skills with content area studies. Opportunities to create hands-on projects allow students to pursue their interest areas in depth. Other students choose traditional classes to earn their graduation credit requirements. All students receive intensive instruction to build proficiency in math and reading, which are vital to ongoing success and career and college readiness.

Small class sizes at Central High School allow teachers to provide personalized instruction based on student need. In this smaller learning environment, teachers are able to increase individualized attention, promoting improved relationships between students and teachers.

Central High School has a strong partnership with Lakeshore Technical College (LTC), offering students dual credit for high school and college and helping students bridge the gap from high school to higher education. Students have the opportunity to take some of these courses at Central High School, while other students are transported directly to the LTC campus for courses.

In addition to our day-school program, Central High offers multi-faceted credit recovery options, including an after-school program, summer program, Compass learning, GED-Option 2, and a work experience program. Central High also supports teen parents in the Teen-Age Parent Program (TAPP) and an on-site Parenting Lab that provides childcare to the children of students.

Beyond the school day, students have opportunities to join our extended day community learning center. Students can choose to participate in a variety of activities designed to promote student interests.
