Wilson Elementary School is a friendly and newly remodeled neighborhood school with a dedicated staff committed to helping all students succeed.

Education at Wilson Elementary School

Wilson offers a long tradition of high student achievement, including being recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School. The Blue Ribbon School award is a prestigious honor that recognizes schools in which students perform at very high levels. Additionally, Wilson consistently rates in the Exceeds Expectations category on the Wisconsin School Report Card.

Wilson Elementary takes pride in effectively implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). This system recognizes students for following the 4>2 (it is greater to do things FOR others rather than TO others) expectations and being Safe, Respectful, and Responsible. The Wisconsin PBIS Network named Wilson a recipient of the Silver Award in Behavior in 2017-2018, 2018-2019, and 2019-2020.

Wilson offers a diverse learning environment including a strong English Language program. The staff at Wilson implements an equitable multi-level system of supports to each learner based upon individual progress. Using this system, high-quality instruction and the strategic use of data collaborate to promote student success. Students receive individualized supports at differing levels of intensity to proactively and responsively adjust to the needs of the whole child. These include the knowledge, skills, and habits learners need for success including developmental, academic, behavioral, social, and emotional skills.

The teachers at Wilson Elementary School are dedicated to ensuring that each individual student is meeting and exceeding their academic goals. The staff prides itself on its commitment to working together to develop future community members, one student at a time. Over 70% of our teachers hold a Master’s degree or higher. Additionally, many teachers continue their professional growth by enrolling in additional educational classes to learn the newest educational methods or to enhance their use of technology in the classroom.

The Wilson staff implements online learning tools to personalize learning and increase student achievement. SmartBoards, Chromebooks, iPads, and iPods are all available to support teaching and learning. Staff members continue to seek grants for additional learning tools to prepare students for the ever-changing technological era. This includes a soon to be developed Maker-Space lab available for all students.

Students at Wilson have many opportunities to participate in various school activities. Wilson has After School Sports, a Student Council, Homework Club, and Coding Club for after school activities, as well the Red Wolf Bookstore, held monthly during lunch. Wilson also offers several additional student leadership opportunities including Safety Patrol and Flag Attendants.

Many parents generously volunteer their time for the Wilson Parent Teacher Organization, which plans multiple events to engage families throughout the year. These include the Harvest Costume Dance, Secret Santa Shop, Ice Cream Social, Wilson Color Run, 5th Grade Banquet, and the All School Picnic. In past years, the PTO has been able to donate a significant amount of money to purchase playground equipment and technology and extra funding for educational school experiences. The PTO also hosts an annual community Fall Festival, which is one of the highlights of the school year for our families and neighbors alike.
