School Nurses are Registered Professional Nurses responsible for protecting and promoting the health of all students. The goal of a School Nurse is to maximize each student’s potential to learn and grow by providing the best possible health care and ensuring a healthy learning environment.
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction offers this list of COVID-19 symptoms to be used in the school setting to limit over-identification:
• Fever (100.4° Fahrenheit or higher), chills, or shaking chills
• Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
• New loss of taste or smell
• Muscle aches or body aches
• Cough (not due to other known cause, such as chronic cough)
• Sore throat, when in combination with other symptoms
• Nausea, vomiting, when in combination with other symptoms
• Headache, when in combination with other symptoms
• Fatigue, when in combination with other symptoms
• Nasal congestion or runny nose (not due to other known causes, such as allergies), when in combination with other symptoms

A school social worker may be consulted when there is difficulty contacting a parent about a student's needs, suspicions that a child may be the victim of child abuse or neglect or when a student has poor school attendance.
