Library Media Specialist

I completed my undergraduate degree at UW-Green Bay and my Master's at UW-Oshkosh. Before becoming a media specialist I taught elementary school (mostly third grade). I am interested in cross-cultural education, and was once an assistant English teacher at a junior high school in Japan.

I love books. I have since I was a little kid, and I hate knowing that some students only experience reading as a chore rather than a joy. The best way to fix that? Get them better books! By getting the right books into kids' hands, I hope to help them find that magic state where the book fades away and the story fills their minds instead. For some kids that might take a 400-page fantasy epic, for others it might take a silly little graphic novel about a boy who turns into a boat. Whatever works! My goal as a librarian is not to share books that I love, but to share books that they'll love.

One of my favorite parts of being a librarian is that I get to help students pursue their information goals. The skills I teach might help with that social studies research project, yeah, but they also help kids better track down information on who their favorite football team just drafted, how to make the most delicious cookies, or why English has such funny spelling. Inquiry, exploration, and engagement are what a library is all about.
