Academics at Jackson School

With an emphasis on literacy, math and real-world science, Jackson students build a strong foundation in the core curriculum. To enhance student learning, specialists in music, art, and physical education work with students weekly. Jackson School strives to provide all students with a variety of learning opportunities. We have adopted the Workshop Model and infused it throughout our teaching practices. We provide enrichment opportunities outside the school day as well as  additional academic support through "What I Need" time, tutoring programs, and EL and Special Education services.

Data-Driven Instruction (DDI)

Data Driven Instruction is a comprehensive look at student assessment data. With the support of school leaders, teachers analyze student assessment data, including daily common assessments, interim assessments, and end-of-year assessments, to help them plan for future instruction.

English Learners (EL)

To ensure students acquire sufficient English proficiency and to enable them to function successfully in the classroom and society the EL curriculum is content-based and reflect mainstreamed curriculum whenever possible, and students are placed at age-appropriate grade levels regardless of English language proficiency.

Early Literacy Intervention (ELI)

The Early Literacy Intervention (ELI) program is an intense reading support group for first and second-grade students.

Instrumental Music

Beginning band and orchestra are open to all 5th grade students. We offer instruction on many different band and string instruments.

Junior Achievement

Through the Junior Achievement program, our students receive knowledge and skills in financial literacy, work readiness and business from volunteers in the local business community. Through this program, students can make connections between what they are learning in school and how to apply it to the real world.

Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS)

PBIS is an acronym for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. The goal of PBIS is to promote and teach appropriate pro-social skills and behaviors to maximize academic success for all students.

School Counselor

Each class sees the school counselor for Guidance Class for 30 minutes every other week. Lessons are based on the Academic, Personal/Social, and Career Development Domains of the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards for School Counseling.

Special Education

All students should be provided with an education in the development of cognitive skills, affective skills, self-awareness, self-esteem, physical well being, and socially acceptable decision making strategies.

Title I

Title I is a federal program that provides money to school districts to help children becoming successful learners.

Workshop Model School

At Jackson Elementary, we believe that the child must be the center of all learning.

Youth-Tutoring-Youth (YTY)

Youth-Tutoring-Youth is a program that provides high school students with an opportunity to give direct tutoring assistance to elementary classrooms under the guidance of a supervising and coordinating teacher. Tutoring occurs either one-on-one, in small groups or in whole group settings. High School students typically work with students for one semester.
