Meet Bradley Traas, a middle school teacher at Horace Mann Middle School in Sheboygan. Inspired by the amazing teachers in his life, Bradley realized in high school that he was meant to work with and have a positive impact on students both in and out of the classroom.
“I have been extremely fortunate to have worked with some amazing colleagues who have helped me grow as a teacher and a person,” he said. “And teaching allows me to remain a kid at heart!”
With over 15 years of teaching experience, Bradley currently works with 8th graders, helping them navigate Algebra. He has built his classroom on the pillar of respect, which establishes an environment where students feel valued and understood. His approach creates a safe space where students are encouraged to thrive both academically and personally.
Bradley brings innovation in teaching to his students daily. His use of interactive ‘Scavenger Hunt’ activities transforms the classroom into an engaging, dynamic learning space. By incorporating movement and problem-solving, he not only makes math fun but also provides tailored support to students who need it most.
He regularly reflects on his teaching methods, seeks advice from colleagues, and explores new ideas from various resources, including social media.
Bradley’s greatest source of motivation and pride comes from his family and the responsibility he feels toward his students. His drive to continually better himself, coupled with the desire to make his family proud, fuels his passion for teaching. Bradley takes great joy in the successes and growth of his own children, and he extends this sense of pride to his students, celebrating their every achievement, no matter how small. He hopes his students leave the classroom knowing they are deeply cared for and that their success is his ultimate goal.
How does Bradley define student success? “A student who has the confidence to make mistakes. A student who is able to overcome an obstacle that has been a barrier to their learning. A student who is willing to try.”
