The Sheboygan Area School District is proud to announce four students and three staff members have been recognized by the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation.

Three North High School seniors have been selected as Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Excellence Scholars. Congratulations to Madeline Brashaw, Sylvia Green, and Stella Revelis. Recipients have demonstrated excellence in the academic arena and high motivation to achieve, have displayed a broad range of activity and leadership outside the academic setting, and have shown strong promise for succeeding in college and beyond.

Congratulations to Benjamin Thao from Central High School, who was selected as a Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Initiative Scholar. Recipients of the Initiative scholarship are chosen by their schools and have overcome significant obstacles or adversity, have demonstrated exceptional initiative in the classroom, and have shown strong promise for succeeding in college and beyond, but have not yet received other academic-based scholarships.

Three Sheboygan Area School District teachers have been selected as Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Teacher Fellows. Congratulations to Addie Degenhardt, Language Arts Teacher at Étude High School; Lindsay Ohlfs, District Lead Multilingual Learner Teacher; and Ruth Stenz, Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher at North High School. They are three of only 100 teachers selected statewide. Recipients are educators who have been chosen for their superior ability to inspire a love of learning in their students, their ability to motivate others, and their leadership and service within and outside the classroom.

Awards of $6,000 are given to the teachers and their schools, and $10,000 scholarships will be given to the graduating high school students.

“We are extremely proud of our students and staff members who were recognized by the Kohl Foundation and want to congratulate them for their outstanding work,” said Seth Harvatine, Superintendent of Schools. “It is an honor to be among the small number of students and teachers selected statewide for these awards.”

The honorees were among 291 Wisconsin students, teachers, and principals named by the Kohl Foundation, which has awarded more than $28.3 million to Wisconsin educators, principals, students, and schools since the program was established in 1990. The Kohl Foundation award program was established by Herb Kohl, a philanthropist, and businessman. “Education is the key to the future of Wisconsin and our nation,” Kohl said. “I am very proud of the accomplishments of these students, teachers, and principals and look forward to the great contributions they will make in the future.”
