Red Raider Manufacturing Gives North High School Senior a Career Head Start

October 10, 2022

Senior Andrew Haase is no stranger to the Kohler | Johnsonville Advanced Technology Center at North High School. In fact, he has learned so much that he qualified for a Youth Apprenticeship at Kohler Company, which he started this past summer.

“It's fun and there is a lot to learn about manufacturing,” said Andrew. He is so eager to learn about all aspects of manufacturing that he has participated in many classes throughout his high school career - Robotics & Automation, Metals Fabrication, Materials and Processes, Advanced Metal Fabrication, and Civil Engineering. He is also currently enrolled at Lakeshore Technical College in their Machine Tools class.

Learn more about Andrew below:

Student Name: Andrew Haase
School: North High School
Grade: 12

Please describe the work you do within your Youth Apprenticeship program at Kohler Company:
I make needed components for assemblies and parts for personal projects that I get to take home.

What is your favorite part of being involved in your Youth Apprenticeship?
My favorite part is being able to make projects for myself and parts for Kohler.

What other classes are you taking?
I am currently taking Machine Tool Classes at LTC.

What extracurricular activities are you involved in (clubs, organizations, sports)?
Red Raider Robotics

What is your favorite thing about your Red Raider Manufacturing experience?
Getting to make stuff on the CNC.

Please describe the CNC and what it is used for:
At school, we have two Haas VF2 mills and a Haas ST-10 Lathe. The CNC mill is a machine that produces custom-designed parts or components by progressively removing material from the workpiece using rotating multi-point cutting tools and computerized controls. CNC Lathes are machines where the material or part is clamped and rotated by the main spindle, while the cutting tool that works on the material, is mounted and moved in various axis, and is controlled by a computer.

What project are you most proud of?
Machinist Cube

Can you share some details about this project?
The Machinist Cube is a cube inside of a cube that I drew and programmed in Fusion 360 and made on the Haas mill.

What are your future plans?
I plan to go to tech school for machining and engineering.

Keep up the good work, Andrew!

The Red Raider Manufacturing program gives students like Andrew the opportunity to learn and grow in a high-tech environment before even graduating from high school. Learn more about the program here: https://www.sheboygan.k12.wi.us/programs/red-raider-manufacturing
