Community members are invited to learn more about a potential referendum to rebuild Farnsworth and Urban Middle Schools. Both schools were built in the 1930s and are in need of extensive repairs and/or upgrades.
Two presentations and tours will be offered:
Sheboygan Area School District staff along with Bray Architects will present the work completed so far, conceptual plans for both schools, and the budget impact. Following the presentation, attendees can tour the school and ask questions.
A Citizens Advisory Committee was convened in 2019 to review the needs of the two schools and make a recommendation to the Board of Education. The Board approved the advisory committee's recommendation to rebuild both schools in May 2022. A new Farnsworth would be built on the south side of the current campus. Due to space constraints at the current Urban campus, it was recommended to rebuild Urban at a new location. The potential location is near Mill and Najacht Roads.
The development of draft site plans is now at a stage where a budget and tax impact can be calculated. SASD Administration and Bray Architects are beginning to share this information with staff, parents, and our community.
SASD residents will receive more information about the potential projects as well as a survey to share feedback in late spring. Based on the survey results, the Board of Education will determine the best plan of action for a potential referendum in the fall of 2024.
A timeline of referendum planning can be found on the Sheboygan Area School District website at https://www.sheboygan.k12.wi.us/middle-school-building-projects.
Any questions about the Community Presentations or the potential referendum can be directed to the Superintendent’s Office via email at Superintendents-Office@sasd.net.
