The mission of Pigeon River Elementary School is to ensure success for all children learning a challenging curriculum while working in partnership with families.

Education at Pigeon River Elementary School

The school learning community offers a safe, respectful, and responsible learning atmosphere, where all school settings have expectations that reinforce a positive learning culture.

Pigeon River provides comprehensive programming in core academics along with art, music, and physical education. Pigeon River is focused on providing instruction using a variety of methods that include whole group core instruction that is accessible to all, small-group guided instruction specific to individual needs, and learning stations where students practice and apply skills while working with peers. Teachers receive support from a data and instructional coach to analyze student data to make educational decisions, while planning with specialists like teachers of English learners, special education teachers, speech and language pathologists, and occupational and physical therapists to make the curriculum accessible to all.

The staff at Pigeon River continually strives to meet the needs of the 21st Century learner. Skills empowered at Pigeon River include critical thinking, communication, creativity, collaboration, and community. Technology in the form of interactive SmartBoards, iPads, and Chromebooks are integrated to support these skills.

The majority of teachers at Pigeon River Elementary School have earned a Master’s degree or higher. Like the students of Pigeon River, the teachers are ongoing learners, participating in professional education courses and professional learning communities to bring their subjects to life.

Pigeon River continues to be a school recognized by the Wisconsin RtI Center for their efforts to implement equitable systems of support for behavior using the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports model. There are different school-wide incentives offered to encourage positive behavior across all grade levels, including but not limited to school-wide field trips, expert visitors, and a school carnival.

The Pigeon River campus is a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat. Students can learn in the fresh air in the school’s outdoor classroom, take a hike through the woods, or discover nature in one of the large garden areas. The school hosts different before and after school activities which have included Nature Explorers, Student Council, Junior Council, Nature Photography club, Book club, Art club, Yearbook, Coding club, and Breakout EDU club. Pigeon River Elementary School is also conveniently located next door the Pigeon River Rec Center, which offers before and after school child care through their KidStop Program.

The mission of the active Pigeon River Parent Teacher Organization is to promote the well-being of students through PTO-sponsored activities that stimulate students’ growth physically, emotionally, and culturally. We will strive to develop united efforts between teachers and parents and to foster a closer relationship between home and school life.
